I got a call today from my bank. Someone has been using my credit card to buy stuff ... and that person wasn't me. Thank goodness for all the anti-fraud measures that banks have in place now. Any slightly odd looking purchases and they call you up.
Someone had made used my card that very morning to buy something for £25 from Cyprus??? And had knocked up a few bills buying goods from a dodgy mail order company. Anyway a few small amounts had been spent over yesterday and today and the total was only about £100 and my card has been stopped so none of the payments will go through.
The scary thing is that apparently there are people out there who spend all day generating random numbers to see which ones work and which ones don't. Sometimes they strike lucky and will try to see if they can get away with a few small payments before going for a big one.
Thank heavens that my bank ... big plug for LLOYDS TSB folks ... are so on the ball.

Very scary stuff..
ReplyDeleteOur credit card was cloned and someone tried to spend 800 euros at a petrol station in Belgium. Goodness knows what they were trying to buy! Luckily it was stopped.
ReplyDeleteScary indeed! thank goodness your bank was onto them
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me last year. They even made a donation to charity to try and throw the bank off the scent, but then spoilt it by trying to make an £800 bet on an online gambling site! My bank were on to them pretty much straight away and none of the payments went through either.
ReplyDeleteGlad your bank was as quick too!
